I believe Alaska has more earthquakes than anywhere in the country. We found this out first hand this weekend. I was standing in the kitchen and the whole house starts to shake. Lauren was in the bedroom so at first I thought she was banging on the wall or something. Then she comes running around the corner asking, “What’s going on?” That’s when I knew, I said, “We are having an earthquake”. It shook the house for only a few seconds but it was a weird feeling for sure. Everyone was on facebook locally asking who felt it and where. We got online and there were mixed reports on the size but I believe the consensus was 5.4. We never felt an aftershock, however, around 4AM in the morning we had a similar sized quake that woke both of us from deep sleep as it was shaking the house also. I only caught the tale end as I was barely awake. Very interesting experience though. I can now say I have survived an earthquake in California and Alaska. As devastating as they can potentially be, it’s a lot better than worrying about tornado’s or hurricanes.
Yep, that pretty much sums up the summer. Last year we had an unbelievable summer with a lot of sun and temperatures reaching the upper 80’s. This summer has mostly been rain and clouds with temperatures only reaching mid-70’s on the hottest days. It’s tough to make it through a harsh cold winter with little to no daylight only to be greeted by a summer with little to no sun. We make due though. This past week has actually been really nice, sunny and mid-seventy’s. You can see from the pictures below that we managed to get out and pick some blueberries, we only saw one pile of bear poo so it wasn’t a real hot bear spot which was comforting because we unarmed, unless you are counting the 2 guns I carry everywhere. Work has been steadily getting busier for me, as I continue to hone my skills and learn my craft I find myself enjoying it even more. One of the pictures I posted was of me holding a customer service award I won for the second quarter. I was recognized for this award because of all the positive reviews I have been receiving online from my clients. They are willing to write review and even give testimonials. It’s an honor to receive this award but it also helps my chances of getting referrals and building my client base. If a random person looks at the reviews on MAdden Real Estate through Yelp for example and they see the top 3 reviews are all people talking about me, they are more likely to call the office and ask for me. It’s really hard weeding out the people that just want to see homes and waste your time though, its an art form for sure. I’ve been working more hours lately as the end of the summer rush is upon us. People really start getting aggressive this time of year so they can be in a home before winter.
I’ve found myself missing my little guy Pee-Wee lately, he always followed me around and kept a lookout for me. I couldn’t have asked for a better dog, but Cherry and Macy are probably happier now to be honest. It was tough taking 3 dogs to places and much more manageable with 2. We are more likely to walk them our ride bikes while they run along with us now. Pee-Wee’s heart was just too weak to keep up towards the end.
I’m heading back to the civil rights movement next month, I mean I’m heading back to the great state of Missouri for a friend of mine’s wedding. I’m really excited because they both seem really happy. They love drinking and sports so they are a perfect match! It will be nice to catch up with old friends that I haven’t seen a while too. Hopefully, it’s not too hot, I might melt.
